
Research Associate – In Vivo
We are seeking a self-motivated individual with contract research organization (CRO) or relevant experience to join our rapidly growing team as a Research Associate. In this role you will contribute to the company’s contracted study life cycle and execute client projects and programs. Specifically, you will be part of our cross-functional team executing in vivo studies and supportive in vitro responsibilities to advance our clients research and development (R&D) programs.

This role is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage, CRO startup. Research Associates work under direct supervision of the Supervisor and general guidance of researchers and scientists. Research Associates perform routine to complex in vivo animal procedures, some in vitro laboratory procedures, and some general facility operational procedures. This position is full-time with laboratory time being on-site at our facilities located in North Grafton, MA.

Key Responsibilities:

Fully comprehends and able performs to perform all aspects of a study cycle for contract research studies and breeding colony management.

Serve as primary liaison to assisting Study Directors with study oversight for assigned studies. Able to work both independently as well as with the team under the direction of Supervisor or research/scientific personnel for contract research studies.

Adept in common rodent dose administration (oral gavage, IM, SC, IP, IV) and sample collections (e.g. blood, urine) methods, as well as able to perform and/or assist in a variety of other in vivo procedures and client program needs (e.g. surgical procedures pre-, intra- and post-operative care and surgical recovery, specialized routes of administration, imaging, use of a dissection microscope).

Demonstrates strong understanding in the humane handling and care of animals including those related to atypical findings, surgery (aseptic/sterile technique), anesthesia/analgesia, euthanasia, and necropsies.

Assist Study Directors with the test material formulations and calculations and properly prepare collected samples for projects.

Assists with operational needs for vivarium and laboratory areas, including but not limited to documentation and review of all records related to the research, operation and monitoring of instruments/equipment, proper sanitation and dispose of waste and biohazards, and routine vivarium and laboratory maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in biological sciences and 4+ years of relevant work experience. CRO setting preferred. AALAS certification and experience a plus.

The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, have a strong work ethic, be able to generate high quality work under tight deadlines, and enjoy working in a fast-paced team environment.

Extensive hands-on experience with in vivo techniques in rodent species. Handling, dosing, sample collection. Technical experience in other species a plus.

Demonstrated experience in standard and specialized in vivo techniques, including common dose routes, minor surgery, necropsies, and anesthesia (both injectable and inhalant). Ability to perform aseptic and sterile surgical technique.

Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office Suite and electronic laboratory notebook systems is preferred.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule (off hours, weekends, and holidays) as necessary.

Willingness to learn other in vivo and in vitro techniques as needed.

Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, time-management, and organizational skills are required.

Familiarity with laws, regulations and mandates associated with the humane use of animals in research.
